The Tosno Museum of Local History and Tradition
occupies the two-story house of the Smolins family of typical
for the outskirts design. The house collection is deposited
here since 1998.
Visitors can explore the history of the
local area and learn its nature and geology.
The first mention of the town of Tosno dates
back to the 15th century. The rapid growth of the town, though,
began in the 18th century with the construction of the road
connecting St.Petersburg and Moscow and establishment of coach
services and stations. In the 19th century the railroad passing
by stimulated further development of the town. These two periods
as well as later history are depicted in the museum display.
The exhibit also describes the history of
the Voskresensky (Resurrection) Monastery that was located
in the area.
An interesting geological display shows
different geological beds, local clays and fossils found in
the neighbourhood.
A special exhibit tells about the life
of astronomer Boris Numerov.
Concerts of chamber music are arranged
in the Fireplace hall of the museum.
